Replay glossary
Four definitions. Each one says what the word means, then what this desk does not do.
Why this matters
These four phrases show up in replay arguments, and they do not mean the same thing. Tick replay is about how fine the tape is. Look-ahead bias is about seeing a bar before the clock arrives. A session rubric grades the sitting. A discipline index would grade whether the rule was kept.
BarionQuant is a local Windows training desk. You keep the files on the machine and run a Training session. It is not a broker, it does not take deposits, and it does not send orders to a venue.
Tick replay
Tick replay means the tape moves trade by trade, or tick by tick, instead of jumping straight to a finished bar’s close. You see the path inside the bar, not only the open, high, low, and close after the bar is done.
BarionQuant’s public desk replays the bars already on your machine. Free practice starts on EURUSD. We do not sell a 20-year official tick archive. A tick file can be turned into candles before import. That is file preparation. It does not add a vendor tick library to the installer.
Look-ahead bias
Look-ahead bias means the chart shows a bar’s high, low, or close before the replay clock has reached that moment. The usual leak is a higher timeframe: you are still stepping a one-minute chart, and the one-hour candle is already drawn as a finished bar, with a high and a close the clock has not earned yet.
On this desk, a bar is drawn when the replay clock has reached it. A higher-timeframe chart is built from that same clock, from the bars already passed. It does not start from a finished higher-timeframe series drawn in advance. The desk still will not stop you from remembering a day you have traded before. That memory is yours. The chart is not supposed to add a second copy of it.
Session rubric
A session rubric is a short written score of one sitting. The grade is whether you followed the process. Profit is not a column on the card.
The public Replay Rubric Generator asks for four fields: the rule, what would invalidate it, whether you stopped, and one note. If the text talks about profit, P&L, or win rate, the page will not copy the card. That generator lives at /en/tools/replay-rubric-generator.
After End Training, Desktop can store an optional outline with three lines: Went well, Mistakes, Next plan. Close does not require those lines. Discipline index
Discipline index is the name for a rule-keeping score: did the written rule hold, and did you stop when it failed. It does not rank accounts by money made. A high profit with a broken rule is not a high discipline index.
BarionQuant does not publish a live leaderboard under this name. There is no page to open for a rank, a prize, or a streak counted in dollars. If you want a score you can finish today, use the session rubric on the sitting you just ended.
Checklist
Use this when a sentence on the site, or in your notes, is ambiguous.
- The sentence needs every print inside the bar. Call it tick replay. Do not assume this installer ships a tick archive.
- The sentence shows a finished higher-timeframe candle while a lower timeframe is still stepping. Call it look-ahead bias.
- You are grading the sitting. Use a session rubric. Leave profit out of the grade.
- You are talking about whether the rule held. That idea is a discipline index, and it is not a public ranking on this site.
- A page asks you to deposit trading funds. You are not on BarionQuant. Read Not a broker: training-tool boundaries.
- You want the copyable card. Open the Replay Rubric Generator.
- You are ready to run one sitting. Download the Windows build, then the next lesson.
Common mistakes
- Calling any candle replay “tick replay” because the file came from a tick download. After the file becomes candles, you are replaying bars.
- Treating look-ahead bias as a moral flaw in the trader. It is a chart that paints the future of the clock. Remembering the day is a different problem.
- Scoring the session rubric with win rate, then wondering why the generator refuses the copy.
- Treating the Desktop outline (Went well / Mistakes / Next plan) as the same form as the website generator.
- Looking for a Discipline Index leaderboard. It is not on the site.
