Leave MetaTrader to practice — or stay. How to choose vs Soft4FX
A Soft4FX alternative is a choice about the terminal — not a longer feature list.
Direct answer
If you search soft4fx alternative, most pages try to sell you another MetaTrader plugin, a browser backtester, or a Forex Tester listicle. That misses the actual fork.
Soft4FX is a MetaTrader plugin forex simulator. You practice on the charts, templates, and account number you already have. The official lifetime license is $109 plus tax, bound to one user / two Metatrader accounts, with 10–20 years of tick data in the price (soft4fx.com/pricing.php (https://soft4fx.com/pricing.php), 2026-09-17).
BarionQuant is a local forex replay Windows desktop that does not sit inside a broker terminal. You sign in to us, pull practice data, and run a session on the machine. A paid seat includes the replay handbook. We do not have Mac, a browser replay, or a 20-year official tick pack. We are not a broker.
Stay with Soft4FX if leaving MT4/MT5 would break how you read a chart. Leave the terminal if the license-to-account bind, or the habit of treating the broker window as a classroom, is the thing you want to stop.
How to judge
Three questions. Answer them before you compare button colors.
1. Where does the software live, and what account unlocks it? Soft4FX is designed for MetaTrader. Their pricing FAQ is explicit: the license is bound to your Metatrader account number, not to a PC, and one license covers at most two accounts. That is a feature if you already trade from that terminal. It is a constraint if you do not want a broker login in the practice loop.
BarionQuant unlocks with a BarionQuant account. The Download (/en/download) path is install → sign in → pull EURUSD. There is no MetaTrader field on that page.
2. Are you rehearsing a familiar MT layout, or a repeatable session plus a method? Soft4FX’s honest job is “the market, sped up, on the charts you already trust.” Native indicators and templates stay put. That is why the Forex Factory thread has lasted for years.
BarionQuant’s job is a training desk: sessions you can start and stop, then a handbook that sits on the same seat. The live Pricing line is “Subscription includes the replay handbook.” We do not sell a separate course SKU. How to practice and decide is the product face; the desktop is where you rehearse.
3. Do you need the plugin ecosystem — long official ticks, calendar, multi-symbol sync — enough to stay inside it? Soft4FX ships 10–20 years of tick history from the sources they name (Dukascopy, TrueFX, HistData), plus calendar and, on MT5, multi-currency sync. If that archive is why you opened the tab, we lose that cell. We will not invent a matching pack.
If you only need enough local history to run the same window twice and write what you actually did, you do not need to rent the whole terminal.
What we do
I treat the site as a method shelf and the desktop as the gym floor. That is the positioning: methods first, software as the training desk.
On 2026-09-17 the anonymous Pricing (/en/pricing) page showed Free $0/mo, Standard $15/mo, Pro $29/mo, with a Yearly toggle that showed $150/yr and $290/yr (Free stays $0/mo). Those numbers match the 2026-09-14 public freeze. The monthly cards are in the screenshot below; the yearly figures are from the same page after switching the toggle — they are not printed on that PNG.
Free is EURUSD practice. Paid seats add symbols, devices, and handbook depth. Learning is included with the plan. Nobody asks for a broker deposit.
I can open BarionQuant as its own Windows window — not an EA, not an MT chart. The 2026-09-17 local QA capture is an empty desk: EURUSD on the watchlist, New Training, Data Center, and a QA expire/logout strip. That strip is dev chrome, not a store installer. The shot only proves the shell is ours.
A Lab capture from 2026-09-15 shows the same chrome with EURUSD M15 on the chart. Still no broker ticket. Still not a reason to pick a side.
Search will also surface FXLab (another MT5 plugin) and Forex Tester’s own alternatives post, which treats broker integration as a virtue. We treat it as a decision. Manual backtesting without a broker terminal is narrower. That is what we ship.

Honest comparison
Soft4FX vs standalone desktop, as of public pages on 2026-09-17. Soft4FX cells cite their site, not a third-party store (some shops still list $99; we use the official $109 + tax). Their pricing hero says the free demo is “test as long as you want”; the same page’s feature list still names 5 trades per simulation, 2 sample years, and no save/load.

Soft4FX, said plainly: ten years of forum use is not an accident. If you want the MT4/MT5 picture, a one-time license, and a long tick file, that product is built for you. Do not switch for a slogan.
BarionQuant, said plainly: we win only if “I will not practice inside the broker window” is a requirement. We lose Mac, browser, and the long official archive. Say that out loud before you download.
Who should skip
Skip BarionQuant — keep Soft4FX or stay on the plugin you have — if any of these are true:
- Your indicators and templates only exist in MetaTrader, and you will not rebuild the layout. - You need 10–20 years of vendor tick history in the box. - You are on a Mac and refuse a Windows machine (both products say no native Mac). - You want a browser tab, not an install. - You want this site to pick EURUSD vs XAU or tell you when to click. We will not.
Skip Soft4FX if the activation model (Metatrader account number) is the thing you are trying to leave, or if you want a structured handbook on the same invoice as the seat.
