An average is not a direction

Desktop Training GBPUSD M15, MA 20, 2026-10-12

The line is the mean of prices that already closed. It is not an instruction for the next bar.

Direct answer

A moving average is the average of already-printed closes over a fixed count of bars. On this sitting the overlay is MA, period 20. Price crossing that line tells me the last close is above or below that average. It does not tell me to buy or sell.

I use the line as a ruler. I do not treat a cross as an order.

How to judge

Is the line built from closed bars?

Yes. Period 20 on M15 is the last twenty completed fifteen-minute closes, with the usual average. The forming bar is not a finished input until it closes.

Did I treat a cross as a direction?

If the close sits above the line, the close is above the average. That is all. A range will cross the same line both ways. I do not take the cross as a new story.

Would a quiet, two-sided day still hug the line?

Yes. On a day with no trend the average sits in the middle of the noise. The line still prints. I do less work those days. I do not invent a trend so the overlay feels useful.

The sitting on this page

Equity 10,000 is the practice account. The Order / SELL / BUY chrome are training tickets. They do not send a live order.

GBPUSD M15 Training chart, one MA, RSI(14) 64.58
BarionQuant Desktop, 2026-10-12. Training · GBPUSD M15. One MA on the candles, default period 20. RSI (14) 64.58 is on the same sitting and is not this rule. No MACD pane. Training tickets in the chrome, not live orders.

How to turn the overlay on is a different page: Put MA and RSI on the chart. This page is the read after it is on.

I do not read RSI 64.58 as a buy. I do not read a candle touching the MA as a bounce that is owed to me.

When the read fails

It fails if I watch the forming bar against a line that has not taken that bar in yet. It fails if every cross is a new entry. It fails if I add EMA, Bollinger, and MACD in the same sitting and then cannot say which line I was using.

Free can turn MA on. Free cannot turn MACD on. This sitting was not a Free seat — the later dialog for the RSI essay shows MACD as an empty check, not a grey lock. The rule on this page still uses only the MA that is painted.

What we do

The Windows desk on Download is the practice window. Free has MA and RSI, on H1 and daily. This capture is M15; a Free seat does not open M15. Take the rule from this page. Practice the overlay on a Free period.

We ship Windows. No Mac. No browser replay. We are not a broker.

For study and simulated practice only. This is not investment advice.

Who should skip

Skip this page if you want a golden-cross lesson, a buy when price tags the line, or a Free seat that opens M15.

Keep it if the overlay is already on and you want one sentence for what the number is.
